i want to tell you the story of Ross Ulbricht, the guy that started Silk Road in 2011. made alot of money before the market was shutdown in Oct, 2013. Silk Road won't have been possible if the dark web doesn't exist.
for context, the internet is categorized into 3
surface web: it makes up about 10% of the internet, it is the indexed (searchable) part of the internet. e.g google, wikipedia. it doesn't require a sign in to be able to access information on it.
Deep web: this part of internet requires login, and it makes up around 89.9% of the internet, e.g. your email, hospital medical records, bank account information, everything that involves login & signups
Dark web: it makes up 0.01% of the deep web. A very small unindexed portion of the internet accessed through certain browsers like TOR, or any .onion router. This dark web was originally designed by USA govt. to transfer classified information especially because of espionage. (Netflix series: spyOps & spycraft to understand espionage)
In USA, there was this smart young guy who envisioned a world where you and I can buy and sell just about anything using cryptocurrencies.
