Volatility

between 270BC to 215BC, King Hiero 2 gave a black smith an amount of gold to carve into crown, when the blacksmith was done, the king doubted that the blacksmith had indeed cheated him, he felt that he must have taken out of the gold away. so the king tasked Archimedes, one of the renowned mathematician who also doubles as an intelligent physicist, to find a way to know if the blacksmith cheated him

After cracking all he knew, Archimedes was tired because he couldn't find a solution, then he went for a bath in a public bathub, when he dipped his leg in the bathub, he notice the water level rised, He shouted Eureka, he ran across the street of the public bathub nakedly down to his house. He discovered that what he need to do is to submerged the crown in a water, and the water level will increase, then he will compare the difference between the size of the gold and the size of the gold melted to make the crown.

When he applied this formula, he discovered that the blacksmith have indeed cheated the king by removing some gold and replacing with more heavier metal.

Just like Archimedes, many concept have their own background story and the math and digital stuffs you see today was an headache for innovator of the past, and you won't ever know how they come about their solution.

one of those problem was the concept of volatility,

Louis Bachelier presented " the theory of speculation" in 1900 somewhere in Paris, where he argued and proposed that the price of an asset can change and it is independent of the previous one. and it can be represented mathematically, that idea didn't gain attraction again until after 10years.

Today, the concept of volatility proposed by Louis found other uses beyond mathematically representation, it have evolved to things like candlestick, and when you measure the price difference of an asset rapidly over a time period it gives you the strength bias of that asset.

ICEBREAKER

the icebreaker of today is that everything around you is volatility, are you maximizing

from the apple announcing new update on iOS18 and the price of apple stock surge to elon musk requesting a strict ban of apple in his premises if some of the update is implemented, and russia removing USD and EURO from their wall street. or should we talk about the announcement of Fed Rate, or CPI, or should we talk about the war in Gaza. how about we talk about local content. How the president fell on democracy day.

everything is volatility

!! but the big question is how can it mar or may us?
